Exploring BETO LAGOON: The extraordinary lagoon of Barobo, Surigao del Sur

I didn’t know I’d easily fall in love with this lagoon the first time I saw it. Just about a 2-minute walk away from Bogac Cold Spring, Beto Lagoon has these alluringly beautiful turquoise waters that would immediately catch anyone’s attention. It’s honestly so pleasant to look at… and its water feels so cold, too!

SUCH AN AMAZING SIGHT! Here’s what’s waiting for you when you visit Barobo!

By the way, swimming isn’t allowed in the lagoon. I only got to feel its cool waters when I sat on its banks and dipped my feet on it. Now, let me share some pictures of this lagoon that surely makes the people of Barobo proud.

BLUE WATERS. The lagoon reminds me of an energy drink. Care to guess what?

How to go to Beto Lagoon:

  1. Before going in Surigao del Sur, we have contacted a travel guide/ habal-habal driver in Hinatuan for our trip in the province. We have arranged the itinerary for a land tour in addition to our tour in the Britania Group of Islands. You may contact our guide, Kuya Edchie, through this number: 09381995953.
  2. Going here wasn’t originally part of our itinerary during our tour. It was just merely suggested by our guide, as it was already very near Bogac Cold Spring.
  3. If you plan to go here without hiring a guide or renting habal-habal, you can ride the bus from Butuan up to Hinatuan or Bislig (travel time: about 5 hours), then ride the bus from Hinatuan or Bislig and travel for an hour. Alight in Barobo and ask around where the lagoon can be found. It’s only about 5 to 10 minutes away from the highway.
  4. You can choose to stay in Barobo and visit more of their travel spots. These include Snake Island/ Vanishing Island, Turtle Island, and Cabgan Island. There’s also Wakat Cave, and the aforementioned Bogac Cold Spring!
PORTRAIT SHOT IN THE LAGOON. The Beto Lagoon is too pretty not to use as a backdrop of pictures!

Speaking of Bogac Cold Spring, it is actually a more popular travel spot than Beto Lagoon. Unlike Beto Lagoon, people can enjoy the cool waters of this cold spring! It’s already a developed travel spot, and this is evident with the services being offered in the area. There’s a lot more people here, too!

MANDATORY SELFIE. Just kidding! I just wanted to take a picture here because I wanted to show it to my student whose family hail from this town.

Many of the people who go here just like to relax and have fun in the water, but there were also some who seem to practice their swimming skills. Even some were enjoying kayaking on the waters! Such crystal clear waters are so inviting! It reminds me of public pools that anyone can enjoy. The difference is, the water here naturally emerges from the ground because after all, it’s a cold spring. There’s a lot to love in Bogac Cold Spring if you live within the area. Here are some snapshots that I took of the cold spring:

KIDS ENJOYING THE COLD SPRING. Look how happy they seem here!
SWIMMERS PRESENT! There were kids and teenagers swimming in the cold spring that morning we visited.
SALBABIDA. Here’s another snapshot of kids in the lagoon.

I hope you have enjoyed reading this blog post about two of the travel spots in Barobo, Surigao del Sur. Whether you intend to enjoy swimming in the cold spring or taking snapshots of a beautiful lagoon, this place is perfect for you because it has both!

BETO LAGOON. This is probably my most favorite shot here!
